There are countless beautiful hikes in and around Vail. Here are a few of our favorites:

Upper Piney River Falls (AllTrails guide)
Difficulty: moderate
Length: 4-5 miles
Any of the hikes from Piney River Ranch are absolutely gorgeous, and not too difficult. This route starts off with a beautiful walk along Piney River Lake, then enters the woods and heads toward the falls. There are great nooks along the route to sit and have lunch, or wait until you reach the falls. You can also just spend the day at Piney River Ranch, where you can kayak, paddleboard, swim, and canoe on the lake.

(NOTE: Prepare for a very bumpy and windy road up to Piney River Ranch. Just drive slowly—it's worth it!)

Berrypicker Trail (AllTrails guide)
Difficulty: moderate to hard
Length: 3-6 milles
This is the best-known Vail Mountain hike that starts at the base in Lionshead Village near the Eagle Bahn Gondola and gets you to the top of the mountain (views are unreal!). If you don’t want to do six miles, take the gondola up and just hike down. Or, hike to the top of Eagle’s Nest and take the gondola down after.

North Trail (AllTrails guide)
Difficulty: moderate
Length: Up to 12 miles
North Trail is a long 12-mile out-and-back that's great for hiking, biking, or trail running as short or as far as you want.

Booth Creek Falls (AllTrails guide)
Difficulty: moderate
Length: 4.2 miles
There's a bit of an incline but it's a very scenic hike surrounded by Aspens, and ends with a waterfall (or keep going a couple more miles to reach Booth lake).

Gore Creek Path (AllTrails guide)
Difficulty: easy
Length: 2 miles
If you're looking for an easy jogging/walking path, Gore Creek Path runs along the creek near Lionshead and Vail Village and is paved for walkers and cyclists.

The Eagle Vail Golf Club has beautiful views of the Gore Range and surrounding peaks of the Colorado Rockies. (About a 15-minute drive from Vail Village.)

The gondolas operate daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the summer. Ride it up to enjoy the views and/or dining at the top of the mountain. You can buy tickets at the base, or online in advance.
